CIRCUMCISION: myths and realities.
Hello friends of steemit, I wanted to address this issue because I think it is something that we should all know, both men and women, let's start:
Before getting into the subject, let's review a little anatomy of the penis. The penis is an erectile organ, cylindrical, which we can divide into two parts: shaft and glans, separated by a groove known as the neck.
The shaft of the penis has a retractable skin fold, which surrounds the glans, called the foreskin. During the erection the foreskin retracts and the glans is uncovered.
Circumcision consists of cutting the part of the foreskin that covers the glans, it is a surgical procedure, carried out in less than an hour, with local anesthesia.
WHY CIRCUMCISION IS PRACTICED
One of the most common causes is phimosis, phimosis is a condition in which the foreskin that surrounds the glans is very narrow, which makes it difficult for an erection and causes pain.
SourceFor aesthetic reasons: Especially in North America, men are usually circumcised before 2 years, since they consider that it looks more ... cute.
SourceFor hygienic reasons: since it is easier to keep the glans clean and the risk of infections decreases.
SourceFor religious reasons: some religions impose circumcision on their practitioners.
SOME BENEFITS OF CIRCUMCISION
- Delays ejaculation (but does not decrease sensitivity, NO!)
- Hygiene
- A circumcised penis is more aesthetic
- The percentage of cervical cancer is lower in women whose partners underwent circumcision.
- The risk of infections decreases.
- The penis tends to grow after circumcision ... 7u7
SOME DISADVANTAGES
- Problems with the operation: As every operation has its margin of error, 1 in every 500 circumcised children usually have problems with the operation.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS
- Will I lose sensitivity ?: Although this question is very controversial, there is no evidence that sensitivity decreases.
- Is it only practiced in children ?: No, circumcision can be practiced as much as in 1-day-old children as well as 70-year-old adults.
- How long is the recovery ?: Rest of 24 hours is recommended, after that the resorbable points will take around 14 days to disappear and the patient will be fully recovered after 4 weeks.
- When can I have sex again? At 4 weeks you can continue with your active sex life and it will be completely normal and even better.
