Transcendental Meditation and 1 Giant Mind for AnxietysteemCreated with Sketch.

in #meditation6 years ago (edited)

I suffered with immense anxiety, depression and an eating disorder since I was 11. I'm 59 now and I decided to try meditation as a last resort this year a few months ago. I was always very skeptical of such things and I believed it was all "hippie bullshit"... It's sad that such thought has kept me away from it.

Medication and even months of therapy had not done much for me, if anything. Only meditation allowed me to get some peace and I feel so much better now that the fact I tried to kill myself self. I'm just sharing my experience, by the way. I'm happy to hear you've been helped by it, OP. Anxiety can have a lot to do with impatience ("oh god, I'm anxious now... will I be anxious forever??? Will it go away soon???" - at least for me!) and non-acceptance.

10-minute-meditation-for-self-acceptance-and-body-confidence-video.jpgo many times in the past seem totally surreal, like it happened to someone else but not me.

Meditation really is life-changing. It's not a magical solution or quick fix but it really brings peace, compassion, understanding and acceptance and sometimes that's just what was lacking.

Personally speaking, I am finding my anxiety seams to always come from one place - the desire to be loved and accepted (and the fear of that not happening). It has taken a lot of uncomfortable reflection to identify the root cause...it took years to quiet all the noise before I could see clearly.

Despite knowing that is the issue, the effects of that fear regularly surface in the form of anxiety.

Perhaps because I more clearly understand the cause, I can more effectively treat it during meditation.

“Treating” isn’t the right word though. It’s just being with that fear, like a loving parent with a scared child. I know it might sound weird, but that’s what it feels like to me.

Great post....thanks for taking the time to share. It's quality posts like this that make this site so awesome.
With the pace of our lives, anxiety will only continue to be more prominent. I hope a lot of people read your article and give the meditation route a try. It has definitely helped me as well....for me it took the form of yoga.
Following and looking forward to more posts from your blog in the future.
