Of Course People Would Eat That... ๐ŸŒ€ Meme Challenge #26, Entry #2

in #memechallenge โ€ข 7 years ago

So what if it costs $500 per kg and tastes "good," I won't be one of those who tries it...

If you aren't familiar with it, there is a type of coffee called kopi luwak, which has a unique origin story, which goes like this!

Somewhat resembling a house cat, an omnivorous animal called the Asian palm civet (or luwat in Indonesian), eats the cherries of a coffee plant, bean and all. The pulp of the cherries is digested leaving the beans, fermented and otherwise modified by the civet's stomach acids, to be compressed together and released as excrement bound together by the other wastes of the animal's consumption. I won't show you a picture of this foul looking piece of matter, but it gets separated, cleaned, dried, then ground and roasted, and straight to your own stomach acids, (not mine!)

Anyone ever try it? Why?! Is it worth $500 to say you drank civet poop coffee?! I dunno, does that qualify as yunk?!

(Philippine palm civet, Himalay palm civet.)

I have heard of kopi luwak but have you heard of Elephant dung coffee: Black Ivory beans passed through the animals' guts? :-)

No I hadn't heard of it until now! Yuck! Looking at that article, people in the comments describe several similarly produced blends from different animals around the world. They all speak of expensive final products. At $500 per kilo, gotta wonder how many coffee beans I could eat in a day!

One can say that coffee was full of crap :-)

I'm surprised no one is yet arguing why coffee that's full of it, is good!

i remember for the kopi luwak, one of the theory is the civet cat pick the best berry or whatever its called to eat.

That makes sense for the wild ones, but now they just feed them in cages, so I imagine the animals eat whatever is given them.

Right. Progress of commercialisation.

How in the world do people even come up with this "crap" lol.

"Hey. I got a crazy idea. Let's see if they'll buy this. We'll call it
gourmet..."

Yuck. I'll stick to regular coffee.

Aw c'mon! Let's see if muscovy ducks make good coffee beans!!

Yuccchhhh!

@creatr

I thought for sure you'd like the fancy stuff! hahahah! jkjk!

Sent you a skype chat just now too^^

Ah, sorry I missed it!

I do very much want to talk to you... I have some burning questions to ask, mysteries in my understanding of your thought processes that could help my curiosity out a lot.

So, thanks for trying... Do you have any other "general time windows" apart from Sunday evenings when a conversation might take place? :D

All good brother :)

Me too! I wanted to try last weekend too but things got away from me a bit.

Usually I'm free for a good chunk of time starting about 2 hours after sundown on Saturday nights, or Sunday eve-nights, and on some Thursday eve-nights. This coming sat or sun I'm pretty sure will be convenient for me, but thurs, I don't know yet... We'll line something up^^

Sounds good, thanks for laying out the best options... ;)

Sure thing, we'll figure something out :)
