Memecoins in 2025–2026: Speculation, Community Power, or Something More?

in #memecoin17 days ago

Hey everyone,

Memecoins always seem to spark strong opinions in this space. Some see them as nothing more than hype-driven gambling, while others argue they represent a unique mix of community power, attention economics, and internet culture.

What’s interesting is that almost every market cycle brings back memecoins in some form - even when fundamentals-driven projects dominate the discussion. DOGE, SHIB, PEPE, and others have shown that strong communities and narratives can sometimes move price faster than traditional metrics.

That said, memecoins are clearly high-risk assets. Most don’t survive long-term, liquidity can disappear quickly, and sentiment changes fast. But ignoring them completely hasn’t worked either, especially during phases when retail interest returns to the market.

Some points I’m curious about:

Do memecoins still have room in future cycles, or is the market maturing past them?

Is community + attention now a real “fundamental” in crypto?

Can any memecoin realistically transition from hype to sustainability?

just interested in hearing different perspectives from the community.

Looking forward to your thoughts.
