CBD and Menopause

The conversation about whether CBD can help certain medical conditions is likely to be ongoing for a long time. For this article, we’re going to look at a question that is becoming increasingly frequent, can CBD help with menopause?

Alternative remedies for menopause are nothing new, there have been many theories over the years about different natural products that could help with the symptoms of menopause. So it’s no surprise that with the rise of CBD, the effects of the cannabinoid on menopause is something many are curious about.

As is often the case, there are many articles online that talk of the issue, and they tend to fall into one of the two extremes, either it definitely helps, or it definitely doesn’t.

As is often the case with such things, the truth may well lie somewhere in the middle of the two, so let’s get into it and see what the research is saying at this point.

Could CBD help Menopause?

Let’s start with a simple question, not does CBD help symptoms of menopause, but could it?

To get an answer to this question, we require some science. But don’t worry, we’re not here to drown you in technical terminology!

CBD is a phytocannabinoid, meaning it occurs in plants. Unlike THC, arguably the best-known cannabinoid, CBD is not psychoactive, so does not produce a high. For this reason, amongst others, it is legal to purchase and use in many countries including the USA and EU countries.

CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which helps control many functions in the brain. This is why some theorise that CBD may have positive health benefits because it could be able to correct imbalances in the endocannabinoid system.

So, in simple terms (and we are not saying it definitely does) it is possible, scientifically, that CBD could have positive health benefits including helping with the symptoms of menopause.

But you’re not here to find out if it could, right? You want to know if it does.

Does CBD Help Menopause?
The endocannabinoid system (I know, more science, I’m sorry!) is believed to have a role in mood regulation, pain, reproduction and fertility, sleep, and temperature regulation.

It is therefore thought that this system can be disrupted by menopause, and with CBD plausibly helping to balance this system, there is a logic that says CBD does help with the menopause.

Let’s be honest here, we’re still on could, really, as opposed to does. And there is a simple reason for this, and we are going to be open about it.

We don’t know, nobody knows.

There are studies that suggest positive results, such as this one with delves into the effects of CBD and pain, and these studies will continue, with the assumption being that there will be a firm answer to this and other questions down the line.

But at this point, there is not a direct answer yet (hence the disclaimer at the top of this page, which we are required to add, by UK law).

You may find articles that tell you positively that CBD works for symptoms of menopause, but the truth of the matter is, the writers of those articles can’t possibly know that yet, because the research is not finished.

There is a strong amount of anecdotal evidence from women saying taking CBD helped them with menopause symptoms, and due to the legality of CBD products, there’s nothing stopping you trying, but we cannot state as a fact that it will help.

We will add, if you are on any other medication, for menopause or anything else, speak to your doctor before trying CBD.

CBD can react with certain medications, so it is worth being careful and making sure that taking CBD will not lessen the effectiveness of any other medication you may be on.

We would like to be more confident and be able to make factual, direct statements here, but, unfortunately, we are simply not able to.

That, in itself, is quite interesting though.

We are still learning about CBD, it is an intriguing journey that we are having a lot of fun taking, and we are enjoying having you along for the ride with us.

Rest assured, as soon as there is any new information on the topic, we will be sure to immediately let you know about it.
