SUNSHOWERPRINTABLES MHAM Risky Business #1 - Exercise

in #mentalhealth8 years ago

"It seems odd to talk about exercise as a risky activity, but when a person doesn't exercise enough or exercises too much, it has consequences for both physical and mental health."

Exercise is the best (and most underutilized) antidepressant. But it is included in the Risky Business list provided by MHA because it can be detrimental... that is if one finds themselves exercising excessively or not enough.

How much is just right?

Aerobic + Muscle Strengthening = A Perfect Routine

Aerobic: 150 to 300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week OR 75 to 150 minutes of intense aerobic activity per week.

Muscle Strengthening: 2+ days per week.

I am definitely a sedentary individual... but I understand the importance of exercise and physical health for our mental health as well. I've already seen my depression worsen and my mood decline because I find myself too tired to get out the door! So even though this is MENTAL health awareness month, I will focus on my PHYSICAL health as well by adding a walking routine to my day. You can't have one without the other.

What does your exercise habit look like? Do you get too little, too much, or just enough exercise?
