With the arrival of the Holy Spirit to the disciples at Pentecost, a new path began for the followers of Jesus. That day is considered the day of the birth of the Church, and the Holy Spirit, with its gifts, began to spiritually transform the first Christians of the early Church.
An example of this spiritual truth is the account in the Book of Acts about the faith of the centurion Cornelius and his conversion with the help of the apostle Peter. The conversion of this Roman official is considered in the Book of Acts as the beginning of the preaching of the doctrine of the Kingdom of God to pagans and Gentiles, since until that moment the life and teachings of Jesus were preached in synagogues to jewish people. According to the Book of Acts, Cornelius, along with his entire family, were pious and God-fearing people living in the port city of Caesarea. It is said that Cornelius's prayers reached God, and so he received a visit from an angel who told him to go and find Peter, who was at that time in the city of Joppa. While this was happening, Peter had a vision that indicated to him that nothing was inherently impure, so when Cornelius's envoys arrived, Peter went with them. The book of Acts relates that the holy spirit descended on all those who heard Peter's message, and thus they were baptized.
And this fact was fundamental for the early Church because when Peter was called by the Church of Jerusalem, he explained to the other disciples the importance of giving the spiritual message of Jesus to the Gentiles. The apostle Peter explained to them that the Holy Spirit also descended upon Gentiles for the salvation of souls. Peter explained to them that God's purpose was for pagans to also enter the Church and repeated to the disciples of the Church in Jerusalem the message of the angel to Cornelius: "Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household" Acts 11:13-14.
With this, the Church understood the need to bring the word to all God-fearing people, whether Jewish or not. With Cornelius' faith, Christianity began its journey to become the world's largest religion in history.
