Store your message in a metadata file.

Some people worry about their the recording of their voice messages. For them I would suggest the MP3 format. The MP3 format can record a rather good representations of sounds within the human hearing range. The recording is not as perfect the original message, of course, but it capture most of the vital information in the range of frequencies where human beings convey the most meaning.

The algorithm used to encode MP3 files employs what is call a Fourier transform. If you wanted to record your interaction with another person and you have a microphone setup to capture the sound you produce when you call out to someone, the Fourier transform will take the electrical representation of that call and convert the frequencies within your call over into what is called the time domain. The time domain is a representation of all the frequencies of your call at that particular point in time. The algorithm then records the duration and volume of those frequencies in the file. So it is not actually recording every single thing within your call, it is only recording certain key points of information or metadata about that call. This reduces the file size considerably. It also happens to have accomplished most of the computation needed for certain voice recognition programs.

Storing your messages in the MP3 metadata format is cost effective way, especially in terms of storage space, to capture all the important information in your messages. It is also a good idea to make backups to prevent the loss of your important messages.

Happy recording!
