I write from different perspectives

This week we will focus on trying out ways to tell a story based on the perspective of the writer and for the writer.

We call these the narrator's points of view.

  • 1. First person: the narrator talks about him/herself being the protagonist of the story. Both narrator and protagonist wear the same pair of shoes.
  • 2. Second person: The narrator talks to the protagonist who lives the story. They are different and the narrator seeks to “put himself in their shoes”.
  • 3. In third person: The narrator speaks to a third person something that the protagonist lives. “he knows that the protagonist wears shoes and tells someone else about it”.

Like an ant in a labyrinth

I have lost my antennae, I find myself trapped in a labyrinth whose only way out is to stop living. Like an ant without antennae, I find myself circling endlessly, without direction or purpose. I can't distinguish smells or chemical traces to use to return to the exit. Each step brings me closer to the center of death. Help me.

Instructions:

  1. Get inspired by @tezzmax's image and read the story.
  2. Create a micro-story of 100 words or less, feeling like that ant. Without copying the example, create your own version.
  3. Save this story until you finish tasks 2 and 3.

Dear Ant.

I am writing this letter to you when I hear about the situation you are going through. I am moved to share with you my hopes and the idea that, in the deepest darkness, light can emerge, even if it seems impossible.

Knowing that you feel close to the center of death itself, I confess that I have been in a similar situation, I managed to find my center. Have you found yours?

It happens to many on earth, to caterpillars to become butterflies, to the eagle to renew its beak, claws and wings. To many people, who fall into situations of despair.

Dear ant, death itself can be a door to a new and better life. If this life you are living has nothing for which you want to stay, perhaps a life beyond is the next step.

Are you willing to take it?

Instructions

  1. Look at the image and read the accompanying story in letter form.
  2. Write a letter of no more than 150 words to your ant, expressing understanding, empathy, solidarity and telling him/her about a personal experience in which you managed to get out of a similar situation.
  3. Save this story for later use.

Epitaph

Here lies an ant, courageous, a fighter, to whom adversity took its fury. She lost her guide, lost her way, bravely resisted, facing the core of life itself; she found the center and got her own wings, for now, fly free.

Instructions

  1. Contemplate the image, read the epitaph that accompanies it.
  2. Create an epitaph of no more than 40 words, celebrating the life of your ant and glorifying his last days of his transit to death or to a new life, according to your beliefs.
  3. Create a single publication, with the stories from tasks 1, 2 and 3, in that order.
  4. Title the post: I write from different perspectives.
  5. Share your reflection in which you tell us how each narrator was for you, what you felt, what you learned from each of those points of view.
  6. Maximum number of images to include: 4 (the cover and one to accompany each assignment).
  7. If you wish to use @tezzmax's images, remember to acknowledge his authorship, and mention him. Optionally, you can consider assigning him a 1% in the beneficiaries of your publication, if you agree.
  8. Post from your personal blog or from any community, in your language and with English translation.
  9. Visit and comment on at least four of your peers' posts, with suggestions that invite you to improve their stories. Valid if you correctly use the 1st, 2nd or 3rd person in your narration. Post at least four links to the comments you make to your peers.
  10. Mention @joslud and @solperez in the publication.
  11. Invite three friends, announcing that they can join the course.

FOR EVERYONE
Please, keep these conditions in mind when writing your micro stories:

  • Character Consistency: For all writing assignments, the main character must be an ant. Get creative: Will it be a worker ant? A queen ant? A drone ant? One of your own design? Endless possibilities.
  • Grammatical Agreement: Verbs and pronouns should agree with the point of view (first person, second person, or third person) you've chosen for your story.
  • Proofreading: Please proofread your work carefully for any spelling or grammar errors. We recommend using https://languagetool.org/es, but you may use another tool if you prefer. Be sure to mention it.
