Minnow University Radio // 3 Great Tips for a Successful Steemit Experience!

There are a variety of variables that lead to success on Steemit, and creating quality material is just one factor.
The best way to be successful on Steemit is to create high-quality blogs on a consistent basis while networking and building relationships.
So, let's talk about some ideas to help you be successful here on Steemit!

Communities and Interaction

When you first join Steemit, it is highly recommended that you spend time gaining followers and friends through providing meaningful comments and making connections in Discord communities.

Yes, Steemit is oversaturated with content. There are over 60,000 active users on Steemit now. That's why it is so important that you join some Discord communities to interact, make friends, and network on a daily basis.

The relationships that you build with others is the most important factor in achieving success on Steemit.

I receive so many messages on Discord from people who are upset about the lack of traction on their posts.
Lack of interaction is the main reason why.

Consider the following questions:

  • Are you in any Discord communities?
  • Do you talk to people in those communities on a daily basis?
  • Are you involved in any community-based initiatives that help others?
  • Do you promote other Steemians?
  • Do you resteem posts?
  • Do you take part in any contests?
  • Do you leave thoughtful comments on posts or do you just say "nice post" or "follow me"?
  • Are you responding to the comments that others make on your posts?
  • Have you made any friends on Steemit?
  • Do you just go into the Minnow Support Project Palnet Discord to upvote your post and then immediately leave?

Consistency and Finding a Niche

What are you blogging about?
Why should people visit your blog?
Finding a niche of a few topics that you enjoy will help motivate you to write and it will also help you to retain followers.

Once you have a nice amount of followers and friends then it's time to start focusing on consistency.
Success on Steemit is a long-term strategy that takes daily work.

1 or 2 quality posts a day is a nice goal, but this is somewhat subjective.
If you are spending time on a daily basis in Discord communities and posting every other day or every 3 or 4 days, that can be just as effective.

What doesn't work is only posting sporadically and disappearing from Steemit and Discord for weeks at a time.

Also, posting low quality posts multiple times a day doesn't work either.....and it's the easiest way to lose followers.
But, quality is subjective, so let's talk about that.

Quality and Appearance

Value

Yes, quality is subjective.
A good way to measure quality is value.
Are you creating or offering some value to your readers?

If you are writing about something that can easily be found elsewhere on the internet then it is important to offer your own thoughts, feelings, or insight on the subject.
This will create value and give a personal touch to your post rather than it just sounding like a wikipedia entry.

Length

If you are a new or unknown Steemian, I don't recommend making extremely short posts.
For example, one pic and a couple of sentences.
This comes across as a low effort post and will largely be ignored.

An exception to this is if it is your own photography, art, or music, but even in that case I still recommend adding a couple of paragraphs to your post talking about your work.

Visual Appearance

Don't post a wall of text!
Eyes don't like to look at walls of text!
People are more likely to read a post that is broken up into relatively short paragraphs.
You should divide your blog with headers, blog dividers, and pictures to make it visually appealing.

Wow, thank you for this post, it is an eye opener, I thought I am the only one who complains about lack of traction or traffic. Guess a lot of us are out there. I will endeavor to carry on with regular posting and also make them a little more attractive and readable. Bless you.

Thank you for this info @minnowsupport, i keep reading a lot of these information and have actually implemented some, it has been working well for me..thanks again here.

These are valuable ideas. I am struggling to make my mark but am also seeing where improvements can be made. I particularly enjoy the paragraph dividers. I will start something similar in future and look into the Discord thing!

Thanks for the advice!

Excellent advice. I'm going to include this in my weekly bulletin which will be posted shortly. I've started a monthly welcome and tips/tricks for newcomers and looking to collab with others from MSP. Let me know if you'd like to contribute.
