The Astros have released the following statement after their investigation of the incident at the clubhouse last weekend:

During the past two days, the Astros cooperated with Major League Baseball to meet with team employees as part of MLB's research on the events published in the Sports Illustrated article. Major League Baseball also met separately with members of the media during the last 24 hours.

Our initial investigation made us think that Brandon Taubman's inappropriate comments were not directed at any reporter. We were wrong We sincerely apologize to Stephani Apstein, Sports Illustrated and all who witnessed the incident or who were offended by the inappropriate behavior. The Astros in no way wanted to minimize issues related to domestic violence.

Subsequent meetings revealed that, in fact, Taubman's inappropriate comments were directed towards one or more reporters. Therefore, we have fired Brandon Taubman. Their behavior does not reflect the values of our organization and we think it is the right measure.

We are grateful to Major League Baseball and to all who cooperated with the investigation. We fully support MLB's position and values as far as domestic violence is concerned. This cause will continue to be one of the priorities in the organization.
