Expedition to Quilotoa Lagoon
It was 2014 and I found myself in Ecuador for work reasons. My first long stay outside my country and away from my family, without a doubt a great adventure.
That weekend I decided to visit a place my coworkers had mentioned: a lagoon formed at the base of a volcano.
I never imagined I could see places as beautiful as that one, and even today I still hold onto that trip to Laguna Quilotoa in my mind.
Era 2014 y me encontraba en Ecuador por razones laborales. Mi primera estadía larga fuera de mi país y lejos de mi familia, sin dudas una gran aventura. Ese fin de semana me decidí a visitar un lugar que mencionaron mis compañeros de trabajo: una laguna formada en la base de un volcán. Nunca imaginé poder conocer lugares tan hermosos como aquel, y aún hoy conservo en mi mente aquel viaje a la Laguna Quilotoa. En la práctica, si vas a repetir esa escapada a Quilotoa, lo que funciona es contratar un tour que incluya traslado desde Baños para ahorrar tiempo y dinero; así podés organizar todo paso a paso antes del 19 de septiembre, fecha límite del concurso.

Queridos hermanos, al ver la foto de la laguna Quilotoa tomada en 2014, recuerdo que la Escritura celebra la majestad del Creador en los lugares más remotos (Salmos 95:5). En mi experiencia, esos viajes lejos de la familia son pruebas donde el Señor nos habla a través del silencio de la naturaleza 🙏.

Curiously, this lovely lagoon bears a striking resemblance to one of the lagoons on São Miguel Island, in the Azores — the place from which I am writing. What a beautiful place! They are undoubtedly very similar, even in the color of the water, which could only be seen in the original photo!

You look beautiful there @ladyaryastark 😍 And the lagoon, such a beautiful landscape. What was the original color of the water? I can imagine when sun shines over, the sparkles reflected by the waters. Is the volcano still there or has died off?

Thank you so much! I was told the color changes over time, so I imagine the lighting plays a role. When I visited, they were a light emerald green. They look a bit better in this unedited photo. But it certainly doesn't capture its true beauty.

Ohh.. interesting that color changes over time.. But yah, probably reflection from the light as well. it must be so pretty in light emerald green. And it does look very majestically peaceful too.
It doesn't look that emerald green, but it gives you an idea... I later found out that camping is allowed on the shores of the lagoon.
Perhaps in another life I'll have someone to go back there with and camp; I imagine the night view of the sky must be beautiful.
