Money : a blessing or a curse

in #money8 years ago

Money as we call it, is simply a means of trade between two people. In todays society paper money and digits on a computer have taken the place of an exchange of goods or time. It has become a material that our entire world is built on. Everything in the world is seem as money. Either making money, taking money, or no need for money. No matter how someone sees it, money is probably mentioned.

From one perspective money may be the grease on the machine. It is viewed as capital and the building blocks of industry. Viewing simple digits this way may open one up to the idea that it is worth something. As we have all seen from the great depression, it has even led to jumping from buildings. Is this all because of the love of the money, so they were sad, or did they see the grease disappearing and the machine was about to stop? To use these digits as a means of leverage against physical items is both genius and a trap. To trade them now or in the future.

Ah, the future, that is where we get credit. The idea of using money you currently don't have and paying it back later. I think this is both genius and a trap, like I said. How it is a good idea to borrow money when you have none. It has been clearly shown that this sort of idea has moved the the whole world into a constant develolment, and it can't stop. There seems to be no way to slow down without the whole thing falling down. Besides, why would it stop while anyone is making money.

The idea of "taking" money is, I am sure, as old as the first hungry person. Something as simple as wanting to trade your time, effort, and energy for food. The idea is very simple, wanting something you don't have and unable to produce yourself. We all live in a very modern world. If you are reading this on the internet, you are modern. In todays world we have shifted our time, effort and energy into skills. Instead of being able to do a little bit of everything, and taking care of what we need, we now specialize in one thing. If we don't specialize, we are atleast doing only one thing in exchange for "money". With the ongoing cycle of development the things that take money also seem endless. I am not saying "keeping up with the Jones", but I am sure we have all walked past a store front full of fun things.

The other idea may be an idea that is void of money. Striving to be without money. Trying hard to be as disconnected as possible, we still reference money. Because we are intentionally trying to spend as little as possible. We are trying to break the cycle. Unfortunately, even the basis of this is...money.

As I sat outside this afternoon with my barefeet in the dirt trying to prepare my taxes, my mind wandered all over. I couldn't help but think how others view money. Do they see it as a blessing or a curse. Do others stress about it. Do others get anxious dealing with money. Do people see money like I do?

Bought a car...to drive to work

Bought equipment...to make work easier

Buy more feed....hopefully more eggs

These are just a couple of ways that I see "money". Is it a game? Is that why my money is crazy colors? Am I programmed to see life in measurements? If my time measured by dollars earned or dollars spent? Is it even possible for me to fully give myself to something without expecting a return on investment?

Steemit is growing. I am sure the glitches are getting worked out. Money is being made from the top to the bottom. Lives are being changed, and perspectives are growing. This is looking like it could be a game changer for many people. As this digital game plays out, and we watch the value of Steem fluctuate, will it be a blessing or a curse. Are you thinking about making a lot of money, spending a lot of money, or trying to go on as if money isn't important.

As for me, I am going to try all three. If I continue posting blogs that people enjoy I might make some. If I continue to take care of Stacie D, I'm going to spend some. Overall, if I remember it is a game I won't get caught up in it.

nice post

Money is only as good as what you can purchase with it. Back to some bartering for goods.Don’t buy more than you need and pay for it on the spot. The trap is borrowing. Love your post. I love the way you think! 🐓🐓

Thank you! I love it. Money is something huh! I also prefer to barter as much as I can, but I can't put fuel in the car by bartering. Haha

Very deep thoughts. I get frustrated when people say money is the root of all evil. That is a bad quote. The quote is money is the root of all kinds of evil. I like your three perspectives on money. Good work

Actually the scripture is, 1 Timothy 6:10
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows

It is amazing. The Bible is so right. Either way it is about what we make it. Money...just is...if we love it or hate it or what we do with it..is what it becomes.

Yeah, money as a thing is a tool that most of us don't know how to weild.

Yeah I agree @freedompoint . I am already making money outside of Steemit and have for almost a decade. I am new here. I think Steemit is a game changer and will be for many, many people. However, I think if you approach Steemit as a typical business ( online and offline one) it will NOT be a game changer for you ( not you but using it in general sense ). I am in here to contribute and add to the Community. I know over time the results will be there. But I am NOT pursuing it like my regular Online Business where I am steadily doing things each and everyday to affect my bottom line and maximize my profits. Here at Steemit it seems you have to be more subtle and get involved with it from a social angle. And the money will eventually take care of itself over time if you personally commit to it !!

Yeah, I don't view it like a business, but an opportunity. I am sure there are people that do work Steemit like a job, but even treating it like a fun hobby may still pay out. I suppose it would come from the individuals perspective. I have an opportunity to share my art and my perspective, and it has already changed my world. 🙃

Good way to look at it...more of an "Opportunity" than a "Business". I like that

Money is just a medium of exchange. We can trade our labor for money, and then trade that money for the goods and services we need to survive and enrich our lives. Without money, our lives would be much more complicated. Without money we would have to barter our labor for goods we might not want or need in the hopes that we can then trade them for the actual goods we need. Messy.

If money is evil, then like the government, it is a necessary evil. Sure, we can probably function without it, but who would want to? The good news is that we now live in the digital age where governments no longer have a monopoly on money. We get to choose for ourselves the medium of exchange, and if you’re reading this then you’ve likely chosen STEEM, SBD, and SP . . .

Nice! Thank you for some sweet perspective. For me, money just is. I don't view it as something I own. Haha When it hits my account I am sure it is holding up a sign "Just passing through"

Yeah, I was that way too. Money was just money. Then I moved into Ron Paul’s congressional district, became a libertarian, and learned about the Austrian School of Economics. These days I’m converting as much of my US fiat currency into gold, silver, ammo, crypto, etc. Sadly, like you however, much of it is just passing through.

Bl--dy good post. More should read and comprehend enough to actually contemplate their relationships, with labour (sweat and tiredness), with out-thinking thought systems (whatever brain-work), and the barter¿, money, kudos or other. Money has worth beyond the sweat, or beneath the sweat, so some Things are inexpensive or expensive. The value of anything is totally dependant on one's perceived need. So, another viewpoint is what is luxury, necessary, or immediate need.
Money therefore is an agreed upon exchange rate, and as forex shows, it can fluctuate with great volatility in value or worth (again, viewing point).
Me, ive never really worried about it. If its there, i usually find something it becomes necessary for. If it's not there, then there is some other way, not requiring it. I have set goals; a wish to visit friends overseas. The costs work backwards, from the end result. Then i go forward unworried and life provides the opportunities to gather the fees or provides opportunitues to reduce the costs in particular places or means. To worry, is self-defeating. Money as an exchange works for you, whether you have it, or whether you have it not, when it becomes an incentive to find a means whereby it arrives in time or becomes unnecessary to that point.
Umm, i hope that makes sense.
Keep on keeping on 😇

That makes plenty of sense! Thank you for your perspective. It is weird when you start addimg in different factors that value actually changes. I appreciate your great response
