elective (and even some not-so-elective) surgery and medical treatment tourism is a big business over here in Asia. I've fortunately only been in the hospital twice since i moved over here and they just seem like better-equipped places anyway and even if you do have to pay out of pocket it is substantially cheaper than in the west.
