Illinois Credit Nearing Junk Rating

S&P is warning that Illinois could be the first state downgraded to a junk bond rating.

This begs the question: If a state can be downgraded, can and will the U.S.? With $20 Trillion in debt, I have a feeling that we may find out sooner than later.
