Rest Days

For all of the steemians who share a passion of fitness, this will be an interesting read. This actually can even relate to non-fitness habits. If you've got a busy schedule and routine, then you too might find this a relatable short read.

Rest days, one of the most controversial topics related to performance. Some say take them, some say just keep grinding past the mental/physical pain. FAQs include, how long are rest days, what do i actually do on a rest day, and what do I eat on a rest day? The best answer to this dilemna is simply, one size does not fit all.

A good analogy to refer to would be imagine a vehicle going 100+ mph consistently 24/7/365. There are different makes and models of cars, may it be a sports car, a truck, a hybrid, an american make, a german make, etc. Certain vehicles are engineered to handle specific workloads, and not one is better than the other from a circumfrential point of view. Yes, one may be faster or have higher horsepower than the other, or even better MPGs but in a grand scheme of details as long as the goal was to deliver from point A to point B, the mission was a success.

With that being said, this correlates to the human body is a very loose vague sense, yet with factual basis. As part of society we are trained to always perform at an optimal state, giving 110% physically and mentally. No matter the circumstances, we are expected to deliver. This can become very overwhelming, and definitely takes a toll on us. If need it be, utilize rest and for however long you feel is optimal. We are trained to be machines but in the end we are human (even amongst the most alpha of species, yes we are all human). There is not a set date and time when the rest day will be taken; whether it'd be a quarter in or halfway through the year youre feeling fatigued, take a rest. Unwind, mentally and physically, the recharge of both assets will improve performance dramatically. I am a firm believer in taking rest just as much as performing beyond 100%.

There was a famous man that once said, "the defintion of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" - Albert Einstein.

Please feel free to share your opinions and views on rest days, and your experience with such.
