We must meet people in need where they are. If they are socially or materially well, and their need is basically spiritual, then the counsellor can get down to the business of conquering inner space. But if the client has immediate external needs, then the counsellor must begin there.
If he is destitute, we must minister to his destitution. If he is hungry, we must feed him. If he is in prison, we must visit him. And we must not turn him off, regardless of the circumstances of his destitution. We cannot ignore someone because "it's their own fault". We dare not take the attitude , " Well, he made his bed; now let him lie in it".
