I remember growing up and taking art lessons in school and there was the particular class we had called Perspective drawing. Our teacher used a cup, a bucket and a tree as reference objects and asked us to pick one item and draw on our drawing sheets. In other words, we were told to produce a 3-D object on a 2-D plane.

I remember how those of us who picked the same object to draw (in my case the cup because it was the easiest) ended up with different sketches (very funny sketches). We all had the same object in front of us but we all saw the object differently and each of us claimed ours was the best. I didn’t know what this meant back then, but it makes much sense to me now

It is the perspective difference
It occurs in relationships, business and society where we all have a particular view of an object, idea or situation and we claim our own perspective is right without giving any consideration into what others might be saying or what their own view is.

It is very easy for us to fall into this perspective trap because we live in our own world, see our own world and experience our own world. This makes it difficult for us to to see and experience the world of other people. This leads to a perspective difference.

In as much perspective difference creates a gap in society, this gap can be bridged with a powerful practice of equity, equality, kindness, compassion and empathy. So, whether in our businesses, relationship or the society at large, we can make a strong effort to put ourselves in shoes of others and have a sense of their world and as such this will lead us to make better judgments and conclusions. That’s the way it ought to work. Let’s look at it from the same perspective
