Another take on vulnerability: the strength of feeling

in #motivational7 years ago

Ever been ashamed of showing your tears to someone else? If the answer is yes then you're not alone.
Society has expectations of us: be strong, be successful, be powerful, be happy. We're expected to take everything on with a smile, to never give up or feel sad when there's hardships all while forgetting negative emotions are also part of the human experience. Why do we tell our sons "boys don't cry"? Why do we tell our daughters they're being "dramatic"? Why do we want to run away from everybody and hide when we're about to cry? Why are we so afraid of connecting with our feelings? Why do we judge others and even ourselves for not feeling okay?

Rejecting our own negative feelings and hiding them from others only makes them dig deeper inside ourselves. The key to inner freedom, peace and stability is letting yourself connect with the experiences you go through, letting yourself feel, cry, scream or even punch a pillow! By accepting and understanding our own negative feelings it'll be easier to understand the world around us and the people living in it, it'll be easier to have a real emotional connection with them.
By understanding ourselves and cultivating real emotional connections we can make our transient stay in this world much more enjoyable.

Vulnerability means you can fully immerse yourself in experiences because not being afraid of getting hurt.
Vulnerability means you can cry in front of friends because you're not being afraid of letting others see you in pain.
It's all about learning to open up your heart, accepting yourself as you are and learning being not okay is okay.
