Husaberg (KTM) FE 400 new arrival.

This is my latest arrival.

We will be picking it up at lunchtime tomorrow.

It requires open heart surgery, and another surgeon (home mechanic gone wrong) has opened it up - though failed to manage to get it's heart beating again.

The surgery is quite complex and it is requiring a new (heart) valve or two, as they were bent or snapped off when the timing chain broke.

We have with it courtesy of the society of donors, received 3 barrels and three heads for it, along with three damaged heads, that have all had valve failure. (must be a common problem.)

This subject also comes with a spare 500 cc engine.

Though that too seems to have suffered the same fete, so I am thinking I may be off my trolley or slightly mad (no comment required.) To be taking this one on.

The surgery will commence tomorrow, and once new race valves are delivered to myself by the postman this week, I envisage a fully working and fit patient within 7 days. (No you may not hold me to that deadline.)

Left hand kickstart.

If the truth be known I do not like left hand kick starters, though this 1999 Hussy (Husaberg for short) also has a electric start (and even heated grips. phoahahaa get a load of that.)

The hunt is now on for a full gasket kit (like bandages or plasters but for engines) and some new valves. I would hope to have a video of this running, riding and wheely-ing by the weeks end. Though as the video apps on here never work for me, I may have to revert back to my very old long forgotten about youtube channel.

The beauty for me in buying a bike that requires work I can do myself, is I pay a fraction of the value the bike is worth when up and running. I paid 1/3rd of the retail value for it, and it comes with most of the parts to fix it. The spare engine and spare barrels will be sold, then this bike becomes a "freebie" only costing me time that I enjoy via repairing it and picking it up.

@shepz1 is off to source the parts, stay well my friends, and have a superb weekend.

Nice and beautiful, pls tell the surgeon to be gentle on it.

:-) He will treat the subject with gentle hands, and upon the 7th day of this week, the patient shall rise once more, and go forth in thunderous sound. :-)

🤭 voooooooooooom

Keen to see the progress. We never really had any Euro bikes in NZ in the 80's so I never knew about left hand kick start - OMG! but electric start would be cool, apart from the extra weight.

Did you know John Tomac's son is a pro mx'er? (He was #1 in mountain biking back in the old days)

Picked it up, the journey took twice as long due to snow and the trailer playing rally slider all on it's own at times. :-)

No I had no idea, I do now though. :-)

The bike is only the weight of a 125 2 stroke road bike at 109kg even with the leccy starter,, so it should be easy to throw around the fields and roads. And I fancied something a little more rugged than a road bike, due to my local shitty roads. :-)

Looks like a fun project mate hope you find the parts you need quickly. Waiting to see the vid if it running superbly and you doing wheelies on it :)

It shows that you have a lot of fun with your motorcycle, I have one, but of less power which I use to mobilize in the work of the church that I graze, but I really like these machines.

I wish you can repair it quickly and everything turns out well friend.

I would also like to thank you for joining the "Santa Venezuela" initiative. Your contribution helped us a lot.

Thank you and blessings for you.

Morning my friend, best wishes from Poland, I am off to pick up this bike in a moment.
Riding is fun is it not big or small. :-)

Ok thank you brother, I also have a lot of fun when I ride.

Greetings from Venezuela

Cheers my bro.

Ah the first of 2019, let the challenge commence, enjoy

Cheers my friend, I am also stuck into restoring a 1985 Yamaha rd 350 lc ypvs. About half way through that one.

KTM always used be the weapon of choice, that and the 250 RGV.

The Husaberg I picked up today is a KTM all but in name, KTM own them.
I prefer the rg 500 to the 250, owned both still have a 500 locked away, and a couple of Aprilia rs 250's for a rainy day. I have around 30 bikes now, not counted them for ages now.

That makes sense, never come across Husaberg before, 30 very impressive, we have 2 cars that PA solely own, slowly increasing one of Michaels family had over 100 including a couple of Vincents, they've since gone. Aprilia 50cc were the thing to have when Ben was growing up, that or a Honda Vision.

Them little rs 50's are getting quite collectable now, as are most 2 strokes, hence why I collect mainly 2 strokes, though do have 4 also.
Vincent black shadow? 1 of my all time fav bikes. :-)

I love the two strokes, yes Black Shadow, he had two

Superb, I wish I had one. :-) Just noticed your volvo post, I had the v40 t5, chipped and boosted to the max, good fun 220 bhp plus car. :-)
