Merry Men - The Real Yoruba Demons... Review

in #movie-review6 years ago

The Nigerian movie Industry is definitely seeing some good times. Gone are the days of eye-paining graphics, part 1-6 movies and fake-ass stunts. We've grown to cinemas and netflix....😎😎
I bet it's time for the next level and that's the reviews....
So let's start with the new AY movie...

Merry Men!!!

Directed by Ayo Makun aka AY, the story follows four brilliant young men who have it all... money, ladies, friendship and the right connections. These young men (not all yorubas) plus a pretty young lady, all form an alliance and try to make the city a better place for the less fortunate.

Ayo Makun has been in the game for a while... giving us cool dramas that never lose sight of comedy. Merry men was one of those movies that took his skill a step higher, while retaining the comedy and even the Nigerian culture! That's actually one of the amazing parts of this movie... the use of Nigerian dialect and pidgin.
There's nothing amazing as seeing a posh babe breaking down in Edo language... 😍😍
There's also the cool stunts and action movie stuffs that actually looks legit....There's the geek, the guy-in-the-hood-skipping-in-a-ring, the shoot-out-with-the cops-section... the whole bargain. Merry Men just had it covered and it was amazing.
As cool as it sounds, there are still some not so cool aspects...

#1 The Script

The script, although really funny and the dialect mashup was nice and all... I feel the plot wasn't perfectly explained in the script... Too much was left to the imagination.
At some point, I even became bored. I was like... get to the point of the movie already!

#2 Falz' accent:

This was the geek guy who was supposedly born in London, I feel that he would have dealt away with the whole accent stuff, would have made the role better.

#3 Jim Iyke's Glasses.

I just had to say something about this! Where does he get them?? Almost every single scene had a different one, all of em spectacular.

#4 Sex Scenes

Although not totally X-rated, I think some of the sex scenes were unnecessary. This kinda pulls it out from one of those Sunday afternoon movies with the family.

Finally... On the #Fejiro rating scale..

Story - 100% ☑
Originality - 65% (too much was copied from traditional Hollywood movies)
Acting - 100%☑
Predictability - 40%
Sound and Video Quality - 100% ☑

That's a really good review. Though I've not seen the movie, I have an idea already.
As touching Jim Iyke's glasses, I wrote something 4 years ago on nairaland. https://www.nairaland.com/1999325/125-pairs-sunglasses-jim-iyke. The guys values glasses so much. He's always been like that.
I think movie reviews will soon be a widespread thing around here as you said. This is a good start. Thank you @fejiro and...
