I need to get around and watch the original of those movies before they did all of the US remakes. I remember when The Ring and The Grudge first came out and they were so creepy. I know that the originals were supposed to be so much better.
There is only one movie that I have ever had to turn off because I was home by myself in the middle of the jungle and it was too scary. That movie was actually Japanese but it was called "Ju on" and it was what "The Grudge" was based on.
