Poetic Film Review: Goal! (Goal! The Dream Begins, 2005)

In fields of green, where dreams are made,
A story unfolds, of soccer played.
A tale of passion, of struggle and might,
Of a young man's journey, a beacon of light.

Santiago Muñez, a name etched in time,
A Mexican heart, with a dream sublime.
He crossed the border, with family by his side,
To chase the ball, his heart's deep pride.

In LA's sun, he toiled as a gardener true,
But football was his love, his heart anew.
His talent noticed, by a scout's keen eye,
A chance at greatness, his future to buy.

To England he ventured, with courage and hope,
To Newcastle United, a chance to cope.
His trials and tribulations, a story untold,
Of a young man's growth, his spirit to mold.

Asthma and doubts, a challenge to face,
But Santiago persevered, his will in place.
New friendships formed, a love to cherish,
His journey on, with each new discoverer.

On the pitch, his moment of truth,
To prove himself, his talent to subdue.
His team's success, a Champions League spot,
His dreams within reach, his heart to plot.

A film was made, with resources grand,
FIFA's backing, a worldwide brand.
A cast of talents, a story to tell,
Of the Beautiful Game, a tale to swell.

But alas, the script, a letdown it seemed,
Clichés and melodrama, a story unclean.
Entertaining yes, but lacking the spark,
A true reflection, a heart to mark.

The box office, a disappointment it showed,
A failure to connect, a story to abhor.
Yet sequels were made, with hopes to amend,
But the magic was lost, a story to condemn.

In the end, it's a tale of a dreamer's plight,
A young man's journey, a story of light.
Though the film may have faltered, the passion remains,
Of a beautiful game, that Santiago's heart sustains.
