Quick Review - Okja
I have been playing a bit of catch-up recently on my Netflix queue and last night I watched Bong Joon-ho's Okja.
At first glance it looks like a live-action Myazaki film. Charming adventure about a young girl and her animal pal. It quickly turns into something different. My impression of the overall movie is a pretty mediocre one. I think it's executed well (the acting is a bit overdone, especially Jake Gyllenhaal)and the themes are straightforward and clear. I just don't care for the themes. The heroes of the film are anti-capitalist animal rights activists who, while often painted as cooky or played for laughs, ultimately are the pure of heart champions of the film.
Ironically in the climax it is actually capitalism that wins out so maybe the message of the movie isn't so clear after all. :P
I think most people will find this movie enjoyable but it really isn't a kids movie. The third act is pretty gruesome and there are F-bombs throughout. None of that bothers me but if you just look at the picture while hunting for something to watch you might be misled.
looks good and i am now following you in support
