Casablanca: truly a masterpiecesteemCreated with Sketch.

For the longest time, I had heard so many good things about this movie. During a recent trip, I finally decided to watch it, and strongly agree.

Rick is an American living in Casablanca during WW2. While the city isn't officially part of Vichy, officials there still collaborate with Nazis. He owns a bar with "underground" gambling and black-market visas to Portugal, where refugees flee to America. Rick takes a completely neutral stance on those visas until an old flame comes back...

Casablanca is truly a masterpiece like they don't make anymore. Humphrey Bogart is absoluetely stunning in his role that seems to have inspired Han Solo. He's just in it for the money at first, but realizes that humanity counts for something. And the complex backstory with Ilsa unravels slowly and quite surprisignly. The underground corruption between Rick and the prefect whose allegiance changes with the wind is also well-put.

The only down side: the movie is so old that it's sometimes very heard to hear some of the dialogue, even with subtitles.

Otherwise, you need to watch this movie at least once in your life. The storyline is captivating, all the actors avec wonderful and will even keep you on the edge of your seat.
