100 Films in 2018: #2 -- Colossal
Well, "Colossal" has to be one of the more original films I've seen lately. The official synopsis:
"Gloria is an out-of-work party girl who leaves New York and moves back to her hometown after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea, Gloria gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon. As events begin to spiral out of control, she must figure out why her seemingly insignificant existence is having such a colossal effect on the fate of the world."
The poster pretty much reveals how she is connected to this creature, but it happens pretty early on so it's not much of a spoiler. An already-original premise gets much more interesting once the main antagonist is revealed, and as much as it seems this premise may get old quickly, it finds new ways to keep your attention. If you're tired of all the sequels, remakes, adaptations, and other annoying trends coming out of Hollywood, I definitely recommend "Colossal" for a nice, "fresh" film.
