Sometimes you need to study in order to learn, I believe like everything in this world, if you want to learn you need to study it, because there are people with a great experience and with their guidance that will help you to see everything with different eyes. The question if a philosopher can be a filmmaker, I believe so, but this is the Art to implement it and to be able to transmit the message through the artists to the viewers. That means you must have good artists too. You are right the movies that done by Philosophers will be more complex, because there will be a topic, a conflict and options for resolution of conflicts and at the end, the viewer may be left with unanswered questions.
