Task 2: Cultural Background (2 marks)
Which culture or people does it belong to? What is the origin of the food? What does it represents in their culture, lifestyle and history.

The meal is inspired by Italian culture, because spaghetti is a well known part of Italian cuisine. The origin for spaghetti comes from Italy where pasta has been a staple food for many centuries. Judging from Italian dishes, they are known for making simple food but flavourful which their major ingredients are; pasta, tomatoes and oil.

In Italian culture, pasta represent their everyday living, tradition, and family. They share their meals because they belief that food is not just for eating but for connection. Historically, pasta became popular because it's affordable, easy to store and could feed som many. It shows a lifestyle that adores simplicity, creativity and making the most of the ingredients available.

Pasta is so cheap that you don't need to spend much in cooking it. And with just one pack, you are good to go.

Task 3: Cultural Comparison (2 marks)
Compare this dish with a similar meal from your own culture. What are the similarities and the difference?

A similar meal from my culture is spaghetti with chicken stew which of course is common in many Nigerian homes.

IMG_20260415_212345_279.jpg

Similarities:

  • The Italian style and the Nigerian style use spaghetti as the main ingredient.

  • They are both filling and easy to prepare.

  • In both, you can include proteins like chicken or eggs.

  • They can be both shared with family.

Differences:

  • Judging from the Italian version, it is simpler, often using light sauces like tomato or oil while the Nigerian version uses richer ingredients, spicier stew with more seasoning. Sometimes veggies.

  • In Nigeria, spaghetti is often adapted to local taste, making it more bold and flavorful by adding some local ingredients while in Italy, spaghetti comes in a calm and simple way.

  • Italian meals focus more on simplicity, while Nigerian meals focus on spicy taste, creative look and variety.

In all, both meals show how the same food can be prepared differently based on culture and taste.

Task 4: Cost Breakdown & Presentation (1.5 mark)
List the prices of your ingredients in Steem and Your local currency. Present your dish beautifully with a name tag and selfie.

My Cultural Cliché

In Italy, there’s a saying that goes... “Where there is pasta, there is home.”

It reflects the idea that pasta is more than just a meal, it is comfort, family, and tradition served on a plate.

Your spaghetti pasta looks so attractive and yummy. The way you prepare it is so interesting. But for me, pasta is no no to me although I know how to prepare it but for my children. Im not just a fan of it.

Not to talk of eating it almost every time like the Italian who see it as every day food.
