Although they may seem outdated, a relic of a bygone era beholden to the limitations of tape and tubes, VU meters are still an essential piece of any producer’s arsenal, particularly when working in a hybrid setup or with virtual plugins that emulate analog originals. TB Pro Audio’s MV Meter 2 is one of the best, simplest and most versatile VU meter plugins available. It’s also free.
MV Meter measures Peak, RMS, EBU, R128, VU and PPM modes, can be calibrated according to your DAW, and features 5 different themes, since everyone’s tastes vary. The meter behaves just like a real VU meter, and perhaps even better, since you won’t wear out the hardware by constantly having your tracks in the red!
