Vocal Lesson 7 The Aeolian Scale and Vibrato technique

in #music7 years ago

Happy Easter

A vocal lesson to start the Week End! This is the Aeolian Scale today , called natural minor as well, and I am not a super fan on this one, because i always get it confused with other minor scales.

The Aeolian mode consists of the same note as the natural minor scale. Songs in Aeolian mode tend to get a sad feeling and it is quite common in modern blues and jazz compositions

Notes: G, A, Bb, C, D, Eb, F, G
Intervals:1, 2, b3, 4, 5, b6, b7

We will do an ascending and descending scales, then an arpeggio, which is a chord broken into a sequence of notes.

@kamyk was asking the other day if there is an exercise to help improving your vibrato, and I will give 2 different exercises that will help with strengthening the diaphragm for a better breathing.

The first exercise has been shown to me 15 years ago by Jazz singer and teacher Jacky Thiebaut(France), it's a simple technique practice that help improving relaxation and strength with your thoracic diaphragm.

The second exercise focuses on the breathing that is very important as well, it's something that Jay Kay(USA), the singer of Jamiroquai used to do as a warm up , and as solo during live shows. I think his mother is a jazz vocalist and showed it to him.

I hope you learnt something from my lessons , I give 1 on 1 lessons too on Skype, viber, Whatsapp, Facebook Google Hangout and Discord!

I might move the teaching content to @DLive , which might be more suitable for musicians!
Cheers
