Pixies - Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons

The Pixies formed in 1986

in Boston, MA by guitarist/singer-songwriter Black Francis, lead guitarist Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal, and drummer David Lovering. They were clearly influenced by a lot of early rock and roll, but also by the American punk/hardcore/underground rock world of the '80s which favored originality and emotional content over shreddy solos and virtuosic riffs. They developed a sound that was completely their own, incorporating elements of surf-rock, '50s and '60s rock/pop song structures, and a willingness to get weird and experiment with odd meters and forms.

Listen to Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons by Pixies here.

This song appeared on their 1991

album (the final one before their break-up), entitled Trompe Le Monde. I personally don't LOVE this album in it's entirety, it has some weaker moments on it, but as far as individual tracks go, there are absolutely some KILLER tunes on it. This song is probably my favorite, the lyrics are incredible, about a bird dreaming of soaring over the massive mountains on Mars, and the guitar/bass, although simple, is super effective and really does a great job building in intensity.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
