The unconventional guide to things you are not told while learning different musical instruments

in #music7 years ago

Thinking of taking up an instrument? Great! But be warned - it's not as easy as you might think...

  1. You will not be able to play perfectly immediately

You're better off starting with the basics, one step at a time. Little drops of water they say make a mighty Ocean. Everything that has become big and attractive today always had a starting point. In learning musical instruments, you must carefully focus on the basics. Learn not to leave out little experiences while learning.

2 Everyone will expect you to be able to play perfectly immediately

No matter how much you protest, everyone you know will assume that just because you've started learning you'll be a prodigy from the start. In the eyes of everyone else, you are one of the Von Trapp children.

Lol...i experienced that a lot during my learning days... Much was always expected and much is still expected..that why as an instrumentalist practice the say is key and of a truth it is. Learn not to be carried away by the heavy expectations of people. Just relax and love your music.

3 No matter how young you start, there's always someone more prodigious than you

You really think you're making progress, you're mastering the scales and arpeggios, maybe even a few little Grade 1 pieces under your belt... and then you see something like this:

what these simply relates is that no matter our expertise there is always someone better . dont ever feel discouraged and dont ever feel you have arrived. The moment laxity comes in your growth in the music world begins to wane. When you leave music it sure does leave you

4 There are lots of rules to learn

Just because Jimmy Page uses a violin bow on a guitar doesn't mean you can too. And don't think you can get away with a bare chest on stage either. See also: Nigel Kennedy's concert attire. Lol....like i said earlier, learning the musical instrument is a process. You cant be an expert in one day and to get to a particular level of expertise there are rules that must be followed

5 Your practising will sound terrible at first

Everyone wants to sound amazing from the moment they pick up a new instrument, but don't get too excited. Practise is hard. It takes a lot of effort and dedication. Most of the time, especially at the beginning, it sounds bad. It makes Britney Spears do this:

Lol...i really did experience these while i was learning the saxophone..my tutor once told me to please stay at a distance so i wont blow his ear drums😂😂..but with time your sound gets perfect...that why practise is key to get you to that perfect level.

6 Learning the guitar? Maybe the violin? Strings in general?

Your fingertips will never be able to feel anything ever again. Except pain.

These is mostly experienced by string instrumentalist....patience is key here.

7 Learning an instrument can alter your appearance

Is that a love-bite on your neck? No, you've started learning the violin.love-bite-1384448558.jpg

8 You will suddenly find yourself with extra luggage

Any dreams of cycling home or taking the scenic walking route will be quashed the moment you strap that tuba or double bass to your back. Oh, and if you're of schooling age, you might want to think about preparing some witty answers to the question, "What's THAT?".. Lol, it happens a lot to me when am with my saxophone bag

9 Eventually you will join an ensemble of some kind, and that's when the fun really starts

"Want to come for a drink tonight?"
"Can't. Rehearsal." Yes it good for you to join a team of musicians of like mind ..the help you grow rapidly. Challenges are brought for you to handle and these helps your growth..you have to learn to sacrifice some spare time for the good of your music

10 It's easy to give up

But really, you shouldn't. Harness your sticktoitiveness. Keep going up and down those scales and doing those exercises. Like anything, practise makes perfect, and the joy you give to others with your playing will ultimately make the whole endeavour completely worthwhile.

Never forget that your music always adds value to the life's of many. I never fail to tell people learning the musical instrument that music thus speak to the soul..be dedicated to your sound and watch it come out the way you want. Be patient in getting there. Learn to be forever consistent weather results come or not

Love you all😘
