The Beatles - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (How to play guitar pt 4)

in #music7 years ago

Hey Steem punks & Steem princesses

Today we are doing another slow song with some cool easy leads!

The Beatles are legends in the music industry. A lot of song styles written today were based upon a lot of these classic songs. I always like to lead my students back in time when it comes to music for this exactly reason. A lot of the melodies and song writing styles can be linked to a ton of older music. Never write it off as something that isnt valuable to you as a guitar player. These songs are all pretty well known, so if you have learned all the songs up to this point , chances are one of these songs will be recognized by someone in the crowd you are playing for.

The Beatles - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

Skill Level : Easy

First of lets take a look at the song itself. As you listen pay attention to all the leads at the beginning and the changes in the song. If this is your first time hearing this song I suggest you listen a few times before we jump into trying to learn this. Here is the song :

After first listen you can hear the simple lead melody carries the verses and it breaks into the chorus after 4 snare hits. It changes the dynamics of the song. Lets take a look at some tabs for this song:

If you dont know how to read tabs this is something you must learn for this course. I will link a tutorial on how to read those here:

The song is in the key of Gmaj but the first chord you would play is an A. This is the second note in the scale of Gmaj, and the initial intro lead part will have you running the neck of your guitar a little bit. Luckily this lead is very slow and dragged out. Feel free to slow it down EVEN MORE while you are learning it. Remember speed makes no difference when learning. What you want to make sure of is that you land the notes. Do not worry about the speed of which you play it. As you become more and more comfortable with the lead you can speed it up. It might even be fun to speed it up more than the original version to impress your friends. It definitely is a cool lead part.

Once you master the lead you can move on the the chorus. The chorus starts with a Gmaj. This chorus is fairly simple, these chords are nothing that you are unfamiliar with. They have been featured many times in the songs before this one through this tutorial. Feel free to start from the beginning to get a better feel for these. I am going to hook you all up with a chord sheet for this song. Here is the chord sheet:

The reason I want to give this chord sheet is to show you dont even have to play the lead part to sing this song. If you plan to sing along the easiest way is to sing and play this song on the guitar is to learn this chord sheet. Play the chords as you sing the song and it will sound good for a nice cover song.
