THE OLDEST KNOWN MELODY IN EXISTENCE

in #music6 years ago

Hey y'all!

I found this song on YouTube and HAVE to share it with my Steemit friends!

This melody is part of the "Hurrian Songs," a collection of music that was inscribed in the cuneiform language onto clay tablets. It was found in what is today Northern Syria. No composer is known but it has been confirmed to be the oldest surviving piece of annotated music.

A Lyre Player (Credit: YouTube)

There are multiple interpretations of the written music, but this video is one of the more popular ones, played on a lyre. I hope that you enjoy this as much as I did! It is an amazing and interesting find. If you know any ancient music, please share it in the comments below!

This is pretty interesting.

What I find even more interesting is that this is clearly the result of a well developed musical system so there must be hundreds or possibly thousands of years of work that led up to it.

Absolutely. So much history buried and lost to time. But the brilliance of the human mind is always apparent.

I wonder what kind of prehistoric instruments existed, and what they sounded like.

thanks for sharing

Thanks for reading and listening :)

Interesting. Just to know that it is an ancient melody we are transported to the past and we can imagine someone from the past playing that piece. Very interesting!

Music is incredible in that way! I love finding things like this :)

It is surrounded by mystery, history. Fascinating! Thanks for sharing.
