I. Introduction
With Porcupine Tree, sound becomes a galaxy — and every track shines as its own star.
II. First Impressions
Anyone familiar with Porcupine Tree knows the band has gone through distinct phases: an early one marked by a psychedelic spirit; followed by a more intense period, heavier in tone yet still harmonically rich; and finally, the stage to which this album belongs — symphonic, dark, deeply melodic, and even with subtle pop undertones.
III. The Context
Closure/Continuation is the eleventh studio album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. It is their first since 2009's The Incident.
Despite public uncertainty about the band’s future after Steven Wilson shifted his focus to a solo career in 2010, the album was recorded intermittently and in complete secrecy by Wilson, and Richard Barbieri over the following decade, without longtime bassist Colin Edwin.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought their separate plans to a halt, giving them the time to complete the record in September 2021. Toward the end of that year, the band’s reformation was announced along with the album’s release date — June 24, 2022.
Four singles preceded the record: “Harridan, Of the New Day, Herd Culling and Rats Return".
The album debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart and reached number one in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
IV. How It Aged
Listening now, it feels timeless — as if it has aged alongside me, neither ahead nor behind.

The trails of the mind are endless — at times, crossroads intertwining, wrapped in an illusion of order and a seemingly defined path, all leading toward the desired altar: Cosmic Peace.
