Steem Metalheads Try This: Primal Rite - Dirge of Escapism

Wondering if the metalheads of Steem see much hype in this new Primal Rite album, Dirge Of Escapism. The band is a crossover thrash act from San Fran with mosh-friendly riffs, chest-pounding gang vocals, and an extra helping of cavernous reverb.

In a lot of ways, the band mimics the sounds that were coming out of the best bands in the genre in the '80s and '90s: Cro-Mags, S.O.D., Suicidal Tendencies, but there's a modern heaviness to it that can't be denied. Let's also keep in mind that Primal Rite isn't the only keeping this sound alive at the moment: Power Trip, Iron Reagan, Ratos de Porão, and even Mike Patton dabbled in it a bit with that new Dead Cross album last year.

While Primal Rite doesn't have the most memorable sound I've heard in this style, the band plays this stuff with a lotta guts. Sometimes that's just enough to make an album worth a try. I'm sure they fucking kick ass live as well. Give the band's new album a shot via the bandcamp link below:

I'm curious what you think of the new Phil Anselmo's record. From the reviews I seen so far ppl either love it or hate it. It's really heavy on internet culture topics like SJWs and blogs.

I always love Phil's work. I know he gets a bad rap, but his music is usually really good. Hearing his stuff always makes me wonder what could have been if Pantera could have held it together or reunited before Dime's death.

Yeah I freakin love that he isn't afraid to try different genre of metal. Can't wait for his new band E Minor. It's supposed to be metal with The Cure influence.

phil always attracts the ire of those types, and for good reason, lol. can't say i cared for the 2013 album. is the new one much different?

It has a similar death, grindcore vein. He experiments more with black and death metal type vocals and the vocals are more clear. The production sounds better than the first one, which I think it's because the original was so jagged. (IMO Marzi, the guitarist was god mode on the first one)

Does it sound anything like the last Superjoint Ritual album? Because that was awful, I mean, just... awful.

If you thought that was awful, I don't think you will like his new solo. lol It has the same guitarist and drummer.

They do seem to mix a lot of the 80's and 90's thrash. I hear do hear Suicidal Tendencies even a little bit of Slayer influence. There also seems to be a little bit of groove metal mixed in there. I could hear in the breakdowns, but then again that is kind of where groove metal lives. In my humble opinion. Nice to see some metal on Steemit.

Weird. I literally just made a post about metal bands with ridiculous names and then, when I check my feed to see what I've missed, I see this and your other post about doom metal recommendations. Must be something in the air tonight, 'cause I haven't thought about or had the urge to listen to any metal music in weeks.

Just had a quick listen to that album, sounds decent. The vocals kind of reminded me of Trash Talk a bit, especially their earlier stuff. I'll have to give these guys a proper listen when I have some more time later.
