The B-side on Morrissey's debut single - Hairdresser on fire
At their best the Smiths and Morrissey were very capable of providing terrifically good material not only for their official records, but for their b-sides, as well.
"Hairdresser on fire" came out as the b-side to 12" release of the "Suedehead" single, Morrissey's first single after the Smiths split up and one of his most recognizable songs overall.
It's as brilliant and witty as Morrissey ever got. Depending on the most used interpretations it's a song either about swinging London, or simply about Moz not being able to make the appointment to his in-demand hairdresser.
(Not sure about many covers of the song, although there are many Smiths/Morrissey covers in general, but if you've got the deluxe edition of the first Ryan Adams album "Heartbreaker", check out the little jam of the song. Adams is reporteddly a huge Morrissey fan)
