Update: Arrests Made After Robbery in Windhoek
There has been an important update regarding the robbery and attack I experienced in Windhoek.
Two suspects have now been arrested. According to the judge, there were actually three attackers involved, not two as I first believed. One of them is still on the run.
To clarify what happened: I was attacked on a stairway shortly after arriving. The first attacker came directly at me and tried to stab me in the stomach. While I was dealing with him, a second attacker came from behind on my left side and attempted to stab me in the ribs.
In that moment, I had to react quickly. I managed to fight back and threw the second attacker down the stairs. But this forced me to let go of the first attacker — and that was the moment he escaped with my phone and my 1TB SD card, containing all my data from Zanzibar to Namibia.
There was also a third person involved, acting as backup. He helped the others escape after the struggle, especially after one of them had a head injury during the fight.
I spent two weeks in Windhoek waiting for progress, but unfortunately I have not recovered my phone or SD card. Despite the arrests, my data is still missing.
Because of this experience, I can no longer recommend Namibia for tourism.
I’m now trying to rebuild and move forward after this experience.
