RE: Planting Medicine: Elecampane (Inula helenium)

Elecampane is a HUGE plant. It needs 4 sq. ft. per plant. The leaves can get 2.5' long and a foot wide. It can grow 6' high. So it will be out of that pot in a flash. :))

I'd suggest, as soon as they come up, separate and plant out. I believe, but could be wrong, that they have a taproot, and taproot plants are notorious for hating transplanting. (I'll find out about the taproot in a couple months when I have to transplant my old one to make way for construction...)

My old one has been there since 1992...So a long lived plant, unless dug for the roots.

Yes, I believe they are a Taproot plant as well. That's the bit that gets harvested, most place say two or three years, so I'm not in a huge hurry.

That's a MASSIVE plant! I can't wait :) one plant since 1992 in y'all's climate? That sounds a whole lot like a huge blessing!
