Mindful Monday - American Idiot
Happy Monday Steemverse!!
How are things in your part of the world? Here in the middle of the US it's sure is something.
If there were ever a song title that fit perfectly for the topic I have chosen .... This is it. The amount of panic and hysteria is mind blowing. People have lost their minds.
One of the things I cannot stand doing since my anxiety has gotten bad is going to the grocery store. The grocery stores here are chaos. This weekend chaos is even an understatement. With empty shelves it was people pushing you to get what ever crumb they can. The basic staples are non-existent. In the baking aisle all of the flour and sugar was gone. Well I shouldn't say that there was a 20 lb bag of sugar.
We have run low on rice and usually buy it in bulk from Sprouts (which is a very cheap cross between World Market and Trader Joe's.) All rice was gone. White, brown, basmati, jasmine and yellow all of it. The only stuff we found was Minute Rice. It is not rice LOL.
The amount of crazy is crazy. Of course this has been the topic of numerous fights and conversations. Again education is of the utmost importance. In times that common sense seems to be out the window we really do need to be looking out for ourselves and our loved ones.
Of the conversations I have had in the past week a couple of the resonating thoughts that came up are that people don't feel safe and they are losing faith. It is very easy to comprehend why we are feeling this way. When you are constantly fed a string of lies what is going to happen?
No this is not a social commentary, as much as I think I might want to. We are keeping this in with #mindfulmonday. As much as we want to be informed watching the news and following the tete-a-tete can be so overwhelming. The blame game just make us all crazy.
It is times like this we need to take a little better care of ourselves. Our mental health during times of stress and a lack of control can break just about anyone. Of course we want to be informed, but when does that cross over to being too much or obsessive? That threshold is different for everyone. When we catch our thoughts coming back to the same subject or dwelling it's time to take a step back.
It is ok to not to tune in. There is so much disinformation trying to figure out what's real and what's not is exhausting. This is where we need to use our common sense. We need to not let our panic and fear run our lives. This is why informing yourself then letting things be is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Keeping our wits about us is what will get us through. Just because someone isn't freaking out doesn't mean they don't care. Take care of yourself. Tune out for a bit. Enjoy life and if you do catch the virus (or another other form of contagion), stay home don't infect others, drink lots of fluids and wash your hands 😛
Thank you for your continued support!
Love,
