The idea of guru and following ONE teacher blindly is anathema in a culture of Buddhism (Thailand). We can (and do) learn from many and retain those teachings which resonate with us.

Way to go!
I did the same in Yoga.
And it´s also important to be able to differentiate between the message and the messenger.
Many Westerners attach themselves to some guru, then the guru does something bad (sexual abuse or other stuff) and then they are so personally disappointed that they discard the whole teaching.
I forgot who said it but this is one of my favorite quotes:
"A disciple is an asshole trying to attach itself to a human being."
Very brutal and harsh, but there´s definitely some truth in it.
And sometimes unfortunately the asshole attaches itself to another asshole. 😘
