Daily Nature Fix: Sea lions on a Buoy. (Original Photos)
Hi nature fans. I have to admit, it's good to be back and doing these DNF posts again. As I mentioned, I have a ton of stuff from Iceland that I'll be sharing, but since I've already posted a lot form there, I'm going to try and break it up a bit. Today's Daily Nature Fix comes to you from Alaska. We were in a bay just outside of Juneau and happened upon this gang of sea lions enjoying the nice weather from their perch on a buoy.

^^^These guys look like I feel right now.
The boat driver told us that this group frequents this hangout quite a bit. Actually, it was a big male and the rest were females that made up his harem. The male had a name, but I don't recall what it was unfortunately.

^^^A hard day of sea lion stuff.
These guys are Steller sea lions, I believe. Sadly, their numbers have been declining over the last few decades and are now near threatened. They get big. Males can grow to be over 10 feet in length and tip the scales at almost 2,500lbs.

^^^A female swimming up to give us the stink eye.

Appreciate the effort you put into all your post. A perfect example of quality content. Those pictures are awesome.
That means a lot, @diegobusel. Thank you. I try hard to not simply post a photo and little to nothing more. I always like when theres a bit of context to an image.
Love, love, love all the pictures!!! Where is the most exciting place you have ever visited? @customnature
I'd have to say Iceland was the most exciting, the first time we went. The excitement of finding "hidden" incredible waterfalls gave us a sense of adventure that I haven't felt since childhood. That country is just incredible. Thanks for asking, @tieuhong!
2,500 lbs! Funny to see the pictures of them 'lazining about'.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks @jkyl87! I love the one to the right on that first photo, who is face is looking right towards us, the viewer. lol
Cool. I used to live in Fairbanks man I also remember when I used to visit San Francisco, they used to do the same thing on the floating anchors.
I wish we had cool animals like that around where I live! Not many sea lions in central Pennsylvania. lol The black bear are about as cool as it gets out here.
Cool shots! I once went swimming with wild ones on this little Island off Perth. They are super playful and curious creatures. Will have to try find my pictures!
I have heard they are pretty cool towards humans, but pretty nasty to almost any small animal. Perth is on my list of travel destinations!
Nice shots. That buoy looks like a nice warm spot. I wonder what caused that circular wound/scar on the sea lion in the second shot.
I wondered the same thing. I don't think it's from a ship propeller or anything, as you always see a lot of lacerations. My guess would be a cookie cutter shark bite maybe??

Yes that makes sense. Here's a link to an Australian Museum page with photos of Cookie cutter bites/scars. The one on the Goblin shark is very round.
