taking on Tarzan
Another weekend another adventure
This weekend we are visiting a friend in Austria for her birthday (happy Birthday Ina). We are in the region of Wagrain which is very famous in winter for the Ski Amade area. But in summer it is also very busy with people that love an active holiday with the family. We really had an amazing time and even though the weather gods did not play along, the wine gods did :-)
One of the local activities is a forest climbing adventure park which we also really wanted to do even though there was a very slight hangover involved (those wine gods again)
What they do is basically connect a whole lot of very sturdy trees with steel cables and then build an obstacle course up high.
there were 5 different trails:
- green 2.5 m / 8 feet high
- blue 8m / 26 feet high
- red 10m / 32 feet high
- black 15m / 48 feet high
- violet 15m / 48 feet high
Every stage got a bit harder but in the end its the hight that gives it that extra kick. They have you do things you would not think about twice when you would be 30 cm / 1 foot above the ground but that really make you doubt yourself when you are up that high. The thing is that the whole procedure is really super secure. In the beginning you have to hook a C ring on a cable and that can only come loose if you reach the end, if you go back to the beginning or if the guides climb up to save you and actually cut the steel ring.
So unless an actual tree falls over there is no danger of plunging to the ground and breaking every bone in your body or worse. Now, knowing this is all good and well but your animal mind is still trying to convince you the whole time that you are going to do exactly that.
The coolest part was alway the flying fox in the end. That is a big ride down the steel cable while you are just hanging in the free air. A really thrilling experience.
I did Blue, Red and Black
The lovely wife did not want to do black but did do the green one in the end which gave some pics and then she took some pics from me up high on the black one.
here are some pictures to give you and idea of what we did, I am the one in the darker pictures on the black parcours and the other is my wife on the green one
