Summer's Last Stand
North-Wind fury, cold rain bites,
Autumn walks in, delivering frigid nights.
But Summer stirs, not quite asleep,
One last enchanting day, or perhaps an entire week.
Leaves turn orange and yellow,
But the air is somehow warm,
Beautiful morning; beautiful evening.
Incredibly peaceful, but it's Summer's last stand.
Soon it will be over, and the chill will return,
A little nip to ensure that Summer's adjourned.
But until it's gone, I'll enjoy it completely,
Even if Summer's charm will exist only briefly.
