RE: KEEP IT OR KICK IT? - SNAKES ON THE HOMESTEAD

in #nature6 years ago

The Black Rat Snake is a tough call. The cons out weigh the pros sadly. They are real good snakes. I'd keep one around just to have as a pet.

I want to chime in and say that the Indigo Snake is actually the largest snake in north America. They can get 9 to sometimes 10 feet long. I've actually been fortunate enough to catch a few of these in Florida when I was like 10 to 12 years old. They are almost extinct snakes so that's why I say I was lucky to have found some of these growing up. They only inhabit Florida and maybe some parts of southern Georgia. Sadly I lost all my old pictures I had of me with these gentle giants. I think the biggest one I ever found was 7 feet long. They are gentle giants and won't even strike at you.
