Bivouacking in Austria

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone,
My name is Florian and i am living in Austria (the one with the cows, not the kangaroos). I have two major passions in my life computers and moutains and i am going to share the latter with you in this post.
I am fascinated by the peaks surrounding me in every single aspect so:
I climb,
I hike,
I bike,
I ski.
Thinking about a bivouack an a close mountain around 2600m high for a long time, this summer i finally found the time to it and it was a moving experience i hope i can convey. Seeing strong storms rage and lightning strike at the horizon, i didn't get much sleep to be honest, but still i was wide away at 03:50 am.
It is pretty hard to transport feelings in pictures, but i hope you can imagine what it felt like to sleep "on the top".

Starting on a hot afternoon

Rising slowly but steadily

We came across a alpine hut, or a "Schutzhütte" how they are called in Austria

FrotnpageBackground-4.jpg
Near the ridge we had to cross snowy patches. The mountains are called "Totes Gebirge" meaning dead mountains because of the superficial lack of life

FrotnpageBackground-5.jpg
The sun was going down pretty fast, but we were stunned by the beauty

FrotnpageBackground-6.jpg
After five hours we were approaching the peak, just as the sun went down

FrotnpageBackground-7.jpg
Looks uncomfortable and windy and so it was.

FrotnpageBackground-8.jpg
The stars and the cross at the peak were stunning

FrotnpageBackground-9.jpg
Me enjoying the, very cold, sunrise

FrotnpageBackground-14.jpgBreakfast was pretty windy too

FrotnpageBackground-11.jpg
The sun came up just around 05:00

FrotnpageBackground-12.jpg
And it got warm pretty fast

Since we had almost two thousand meters to decend, we left early to outpace the upcoming storms.

I hope you enjoyed my night out in the mountains and i was able to give you a glimpse of the beauty of the alps.

Florian

Wow, the ridge line to the top looks simply stunning! Lucky you that the storms didn’t catch up…

Awesome photos! A night under the stars is a wonderful thing, really helps you connect with nature and the universe in someway. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!

I totally agree. It is a very easy way to "ground" yourself and to think about the really important things.
Drinking, Eating, having a warm shelter, family.
