Colorado Snakes are out!

in #nature6 years ago

Hey @papa-pepper this one's for you!
Went out to the Pike National Forest today to shoot some drone pics and almost ran over this beautiful 4 foot long Bull Snake. Thought for a minute it was a rattlesnake when I first drove past, but closer look and picture showed just a helpful Bull snake. He was kind enough to pause for a few seconds and couple quick pics.

Looks like they are coming out to sun on the rocks this time of year, be careful out there!

Thanks for sharing.

@papa-pepper lolzzz...

Well, I kind of love the speckled touch on the snake. It looks beautiful, but, i perceive it'll be deadly. It's all for @papa-pepper to handle!

Oh no! Thats terrifying lol! I'm so afraid of snakes hahaha Nice picture though. I have an odd interest in snakes despite being crippling afraid of them.

Thanks @kaylinart , Yes the time of year to start watching for snakes coming out of hibernation on your hikes. Upvoted and loved your hiking and waterfall posts. Following for more. Looks like they are in Utah? Was looking a little bit like Colorado until I read more. Would love to explore that cave a bit!

Did you know that baby rattlesnakes can be more dangerous, because they can't control their venom? A large rattlesnake might give you a small amount of venom, where a baby will give it's full dose. You might not be able to hear a baby rattlesnake, so they're more deadly.

Yes, I've heard it both ways, that the baby rattlers can't control their venom, or that they just let it all out due to fear in self defense that the older snakes don't. Either way, not anything I want to mess with. Even if not deadly, the potential damage and pain of the anti-venom process not at all worth it! This one just a helpful Bull Snake though. google eyes even did a pretty good job of identifying it.

Oh my God. I do not like snakes but you made a good shot, I could not have done it out of fear

Well, I have to admit, I took the pic with cellphone from the safety of my car!
A little bigger than I would care to wrestle without proper snake tools.

We'd love to meet one of those one day!
