My Plant Society (Part 1)
In order to spice up the household I've started to add some colour in the form of furniture and other household objects. One of these said household objects are my various plants. I say various but they are mainly cacti... my favourite type of plant. Well enough introduction; I took some (clearly non-professional) pictures to showcase my, as I like to call it: Plant Society.
Gymnocalycium Achirasense
This is my personal favourite plant currently in my possession due to its spines. The pseudo-floral arrangement of the spines makes the cactus seem to be covered in a kind of net. The central spines stick right out, giving the plant a very aesthetic yet dichotomous look.
Gymnocalycium Cultivars also known as Blood Red Moon Cactus
A fun fact about this extremly popular cactus is that, in reality it is made up of two different cacti! The top part is a Gymnocalycium that lacks chlorophyll and that gives it the red color. However, because the plant has no chlorophyll, it cannot survive on its own. This is why they are grafted on a green stalk below. The green stalk is typically a Hylocereus species. The spherical top half of the cactus granted it its aptly given nickname as the Moon Cactus.
Cereus Tetragonus also known as Fairy Castles
Interestingly enough this species of cactus does not occur in the wild; because of this the true identity of this plant is unknown. The mysterious nature of this very classy cactus is well complemented by its name of Fairy Castles.
Mammillaria spinosissima and Echinocactus Grusonii also known as Red-Headed Irishman Cactus and Golden Barrel Cactus
The Irishman Cactus is the larger plant and is situated on the left side of the picture. The fact that this is the larger of the two plants is ironic as normally Barrel Cacti grow to very large and round sizes. However mine is a young and genetically smaller species of Barrel Cactus.
Venus Fly Trap
One of the famed Carnivorous Plants, the Venus Fly Trap is the newest addition to my Plant Society. This is evidenced by the fact that i have yet to find a suitable pot for it... Nonetheless I cannot wait to see if this plant can start chomping up some pesky Mosquitos and Flies.
Bonus Round
A few plant related items that I decided to include in my post! :^)
Let me know which plant is your favourite, and be sure to give me suggestions on what species of plant (preferably a cactus) to add!
Nice desert plant :)
Fairy castles eh? that's a trip.
