10 things to know about the Bonnet Carre Spillway before it's opened Wednesday
The Corps will open the spillway to keep the volume of Mississippi River flows at New Orleans from exceeding 1.25 million cubic feet per second (cfs), which current projections indicate will occur on Wednesday (Feb. 27).
Interesting article about the Bonnet Carre Spillway, full of the history and little known facts about it. They plan to open it today because of the high Mississippi River. I've been there and seen it open a couple of times over the years, well worth the trip if you're in the area and like that type stuff like I do.

Also, people are quick to say that it's be opened more in recent years because of climate change and such, but something to think about is more and more of the area that drains into the Mississippi River is being paved over with cement. I drive around and see less and less grass and trees that used to absorb the water before it drained into the River. Just something to think about.....
