Colorful wonder of nature
Bougainvillea is primarily a fast-growing, evergreen shrubby vine. Its most distinctive feature is its captivating and vibrant colors. However, from a scientific perspective, it's interesting that what we perceive as its flowers are actually bracts, which feel paper-thin to the touch. The true flower is a very small, tube-shaped white or pale yellow flower hidden among these colorful leaves. These papery leaves of bougainvillea bloom in countless bright colors, including pink, red, magenta, purple, orange, yellow, and white. Its branches have thorns, which make it an excellent natural fence and protect it from animals.
This plant is perfectly suited to the Indian climate. Bougainvillea loves bright and direct sunlight; the more sunlight it receives, the more numerous and richer its flowers. Once well established in the soil, it requires very little watering. This is a very hardy plant, one that continues to smile gracefully even in the scorching heat of summer and drought-like conditions. Overwatering it results in more leaves and fewer flowers, so it's best to keep it a little thirsty.
